17 TIGERS ILLEGALLY KEPT IN RESIDENTIAL AREA IN NORTH-CENTRAL, VIETNAM

On August 4, the Environmental Police Department in Nghe An Province – North-central of Vietnam coordinated with authorities to arrest 17 tigers illegally kept in captivity, in Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An). 

On Wednesday evening, the Department of Public Security in Nghe An Province released early information about a case in which 17 adult tigers were discovered at residential houses.

At least 15 adult tigers, each weighing more than 200 kilograms, were found being raised illegally at the venue.The 17 tigers were transported to a local animal rescue centre for daily treatment and inspection by police cars.

Tigers and many other wild animals are on the list of endangered wildlife protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), to which Vietnam has been a party since 1994, they are strictly prohibited from being traded in, imported to, or exported from the country.
