A transport of a frozen tiger weighing over 200 kg caught red-handed

On March 26, Lai Chau Provincial Police said that they had just arrested 3 smugglers for transporting a tiger weighing over 200 kg for consumption.

Specifically, at 19:30, on March 25, at the Muong So junction area, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province, the Criminal Police Department of Lai Chau Provincial Public Security Department coordinated with professional departments of the Ministry of Public Security, functional departments of the Provincial Public Security, Phong Tho District Police successfully arrested 3 smugglers, namely: Vo Van Men (born in 1984, currently living in Nghi Xa commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province) and Tang Van Phuc, born 1982), Tang Ngoc Khanh (born 1993, both living in Dien Lam commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province) for trading critically endangered animals.

The seized exhibits include one tiger weighing over 200 kg and a number of related documents and objects.

Three arrested perpetrators confessed to transporting tigers from Nghe An to Lai Chau for consumption for 615 million VND. During the transportation process, they used many tricks to change the color of the car’s control plate to distract the police force.

Tiger belongs to group IB on the list of rare and endangered wildlife protection according to Decree 06/2019/ND-CP of the Government.

The case is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
