Hai Phong: Half a ton of smuggled ivory pretending to be cattle horns was seized

In the afternoon of February 2nd, in the presence of the Steering Committee 389 of Hai Phong city, the Command of the Coast Guard Region 1 coordinated with the Customs Department Hai Phong  and authorities opened a container containing ivory smuggled by sea.

Previously, from the beginning of January 2023, according to professional information that the two units have, in the coming time, there will be a shipment containing ivory transported from abroad to Hai Phong port, the Regional Police Command Sea 1 has coordinated with Hai Phong Customs Department to use technical measures to conduct verification.

When determining the consignment in question is likely to have been gathered at Lach Huyen International Port, the units have agreed to strengthen the inspection work through the system Customs scanners and identified container number TRHU6895812, belonging to bill of lading number ONEYLOSC03789600 with suspicious signs of ivory being mixed into the goods.

After opening the lead container, the functional force discovered a large of Ivories including 117 pieces with a total weight of about 490 kg mixed into imported cow horns.

Currently, the case is being investigated and handled by the Coast Guard Region 1 Command and Hai Phong City Customs Department.
