On July 11, the Wildlife Destruction Council carried out the destruction of 299 dead wildlife specimens in accordance with the law at the Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center (Tien Duoc Commune, Soc Son District, Hanoi).
The destroyed wildlife included:
- 69 rare and endangered wildlife species from group IB, IIB (such as Asiatic black bears, wildcats, slow lorises, monitor lizards, etc.)
- 130 common wildlife species (such as bamboo rats, squirrels, budgerigars, rock pigeons, etc.)
To ensure public health safety, the wildlife specimens were incinerated in a specialized crematorium at the Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center. This destruction aimed to prevent the spread of diseases from animals to humans and livestock.
Lương Xuân Hồng, Director of the Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center, stated that most of the destroyed wildlife were evidence in administrative and criminal cases, or had died during transportation and preservation. These specimens were handed over to the Center by law enforcement agencies.
It is noted that the destruction of wildlife was carried out in accordance with Circular No. 29/2019/TT-BNNPTNT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, which regulates the handling of forest animals that are exhibits or evidence; or voluntarily surrendered to the State by organizations or individuals (effective from February 20, 2020).
This serves as a wake-up call, highlighting the urgent need for more effective wildlife protection. Every individual and community must work together to protect and maintain biodiversity and build a sustainable living environment for both humans and wildlife.
