On November 25, the Provincial People’s Court brought to trial and sentenced Nguyen Quyet Thang (born in 1990, residing in Phu Nghia commune, Lac Thuy district, Hoa Binh province) to 13 months in prison for “violating regulations on the protection of endangered and rare animals”.
According to the indictment, in May 2022, Nguyen Quyet Thang raised and captivated two slow loris in a small iron cage at home. Thang admitted that he caught them in the forest behind the house. Despite knowing that these two Pygmy slow lorises are endangered and rare animals banned from hunting, breeding and trafficking, Thang posted on Facebook for sale at the price of 3.5 million VND because of his greed.
On the way to the buyer, Thang was caught by Tam Diep City Police and two Pygmy slow lorises were confiscated.
Based on the entire case and Article 244 of the 2015 Criminal Code, the Trial Panel sentenced defendant Nguyen Quyet Thang to 13 months in prison for “violating regulations on the protection of endangered and rare animals”.
