The hotline to rescue wild animals has just been set up by Forest Rangers of Thua Thien – Hue and has been effective, when the animals have been discovered and informed by the people, thereby saving precious and rare individuals.

Upon receiving information from people residing in Cham residential group, Huong Ho ward (Hue city), forest rangers of Hue Forest Protection Department were immediately at the scene, rescuing two monkeys. In which, an individual pig-tailed monkey (scientific name: Macaca leonina), male, weighs 7 kg and a red-faced monkey (scientific name: Macaca arctoides), female, weighs 3 kg.

Both monkeys were discovered by Mr. N.T.K in the backyard. He then contacted the authorities via the hotline to return them with hopes of releasing them into the natural environment. These wild animals belong to group IIB of rare and endangered wild animals that need protection according to the Government’s regulations on management of endangered and precious forest plants and animals and International Convention on Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

“Actually, I didn’t know these monkeys were rare and endangered, but I knew they were forest animals that needed to be preserved and protected. So I immediately informed the rangers to check and bring them back to the natural environment,” K shared.

The Hue Forest Protection Department is completing the dossier and will coordinate with relevant units to release the aforementioned individuals to the natural environment which is expected to be Sao La Conservation Area (A Luoi).

Meanwhile, Mr. T.Đ.C (residing in Phong Binh commune, Phong Dien district) has just discovered a tortoise in his garden. After receiving the information via the hotline, the Provincial FPD directed the Phong Dien District FPD to take charge of the case.

The received forest animal was identified as a 4-eyed tortoise (Sacalia quadriocellata) weighing 0.3 kg, in good health, and belonging to group IIB endangered and rare forest animals. Currently, the FPD is completing the procedures to release the tortoise into the natural environment.

According to the Thua Thien – Hue Provincial Forest Protection Department, recently, the unit has continuously received information from people who discovered and voluntarily surrendered wild animals, showing their awareness of conservation and protection of wildlife is more enhanced these days. This is a vital cooperation, generating favorable conditions for functional forces and forest rangers in managing and protecting wildlife in particular and forest protection in general.

Recently, Thua Thien – Hue Forest Protection Department has also announced a hotline to receive reports of wildlife violations from people, organizations, and units through many communication channels such as telephone number 0844773030; using OTT applications: Zalo, Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kieml…); using the App: “Hue-S”.

Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan – Director of the Forest Protection Department of Thua Thien – Hue province said that over the past time, some people have reported that when detecting violations of wildlife, they still do not know who to report to or which channel to reach. In addition, the province has integrated information about illegal acts on wild animals on the Hue S website, but when the functional forces need more information about the case, it is not available.

It is necessary to have related activities and strategies to raise awareness and change the behavior of communities in the province to improve the quality of forest resources and protect wildlife. Due to reasons above, the Forest Protection Department has planned to operate a hotline to receive wildlife violations reports in the province to raise awareness, change behavior and call on the community to join hands to take action and protect natural resources…

“Through the hotline, the staff receives information from the people about the location, time, violators, behaviors, animals, quantity, etc… Information received will then be transferred to the heads of functional departments of the Forest Protection Department for analysis. After that, it will be transferred to relevant departments and units to check, detect and handle violations. The processing results of the departments and units are notified to the hotline staff to update the data and give feedback to the informant…”, Mr. Tuan added.
