According to Ninh Binh Province Police, at 8:10 AM on December 6 on Tran Nhan Tong street, a Patrol unit of Ninh Binh Traffic Department stopped the bus with number plate BKS 47B-023.12 on the route Ninh Binh – Hanoi for investigation due to it being suspicious.

Through investigation, the authority found 6 pangolins, a box full of stinking animal body parts (believed to have come from wildlife) and 4000 packets of “Esse” brand foreign cigarette.
The driver Ngoc Ha ( 40 of Hoa Thang village from Dak Lak province) wasn’t able to present a legal document to prove the product’s origin. He also admitted that he would be paid for transporting those products between Dak Lak and Hanoi.

Currently, Ninh Binh Provincial Police has temporarily detained the goods and vehicle for investigation and clarification.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), which regulates the international wildlife trade, has placed restrictions on the pangolin market since 1975, and in 2016, it added all eight pangolin species to its Appendix I, reserved for the strictest prohibitions on animals threatened with extinction. Pangolins are also listed on the IUCN Red List, all with decreasing populations and designations ranging from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered.
